A guy told me about his 900HP truck yesterday

It was a ‘00 Dodge 1500 with a 6" lift. And plenty of rust.

He then told me about how it used to have a ‘chip’ that gave it 1,000 HP, but his grandpa saw him lighting up the tires, so he made him take the chip off. It didn’t run well without a chip, so he installed a new, programmable chip, that he dialed up to 900 HP.

It looked basically just like this truck, but with less chrome and more rust.

How did I meet the guy, you ask? He was a customer in my shop. He had brought in his iPhone 4s to have the screen replaced.

The iPhone 4s: The phone of choice among owners of 900HP bro trucks.

I had a very hard time keeping a straight face.

About an extra 700 hp from a chip....

Makes you wonder why anybody bothers with things like turbo, manifold, exhaust, and that other hardware.

I always wonder how people arrive at those figures.

One of my favorites was when my brother had an ‘87 Trans Am that we had swapped a 350 into, and he was at a car show parked next to a Firebird with bone stock LG4...that was the awful carbureted 305. We conservatively figured my brother’s car made around 280hp, and I remember the kid who owned the Firebird saying he would smoke (has good information ever come from somebody saying car A would smoke car B?) my brother’s car because his car “had 305hp”.

For some reason that reminded me of this joke..

Three southern belles, in fact, sorority sisters, are in rocking chairs on the veranda, passing a hot summer day by sipping mint juleps and talking about presents that they got for college graduation.

The first keeps prattling on about her daddy, Beauregard, taking her on a tour of Europe. The third girl said: “That’s nice....”

The second belle said her Daddy bought her a diamond necklace, and a new sports car. The third girl responded with, “That’s nice...”

The first asks, “Well, what did your Daddy do for you?”
The third replies, “He sent me to finishing school.”

The second belle asks, “Finishing school? What did you need with finishing school after college?”
The third replies, “That’s where they taught me to say ‘That’s nice...’ instead of ‘Fuck you.’”

I knew a guy on a forum for a while, couldn’t keep a tranny in his old Chevy. Supposedly he slapped an eBay turbo kit on it and was making 50psi of boost on an otherwise stock 350. He claimed 700hp. I wasn’t inclined to believe he was running anywhere near that much boost or putting out huge amounts of power, but he also complained about single-digit mpg a lot.

I was wondering that myself. Best I could figure is that he just adds a bit to the highest number he’s ever heard anyone brag about, so that he automatically wins any argument with “well mine has [yours+100].” I can’t figure any other way he’s gotten to a number that high.

Then again, he definitely did not have a 3-digit IQ.

900 is too far out to lunch for this, but “hp stacking” is a thing.

K&N says I get 10hp, Flowmaster says I get 15hp, and then they all get added up for the best possible gain.

So, put both filters on my truck for twice the added HP? nice! Heck, I should make an intake splitter that would allow 15 or 20 filters to be installed, get a couple hundred extra HP from bolt-ons that wouldn’t even get your hands greasy.

And by 900 he meant 200. Unfortunately we all know one of those guys.
